Cool Lipo (laser assisted lipolysis) is a new, minimally invasive technology that liquefies fat for easy removal. It is a laser-based procedure that breaks up and removes fat cells in areas such as under the chin, neck, jowls, arms, abdomen, love handles, muffin top, bra bulge, inner thighs, saddlebags, or inner knees. Areas with loose skin such as the arms benefit because the laser helps tighten the skin. This unique wavelength of the Cool Lipo laser system directly contracts collagen and tightens the skin from the inside out – an effect not seen with standard liposuction.
CoolLipo Procedure
The Cool Lipo procedure is performed at Elite MedSpa. You may be awake during the whole procedure. (Dr. Calderon will prescribe a sedative prior to the procedure.) The treatment area is anesthetized using tumescence (local anesthetic). A small fiber optic laser (wand-like apparatus which contains laser fiber) is inserted into an incision through the skin into the treatment area. Dr. Calderon maneuvers the laser fiber within the treatment area making contact with the fat under the skin. The laser energy disrupts and liquefies the fat, which is then removed by a suction cannula (liposuction without the trauma). Once the fat is removed the laser wand is then reinserted and the skin is tightened. After the procedure a bandage is placed at the insertion sites to allow draining of the tumescent fluid. At that time a compression garment is worn over the area the fat was removed. Dr. Calderon will provide your instructions regarding activity level and direction as to when to remove the compression. All patients are seen in follow up.

How long does the procedure take?
After the patient arrives we take pictures and prep the area with sterile drapes and betadine. That usually takes the first hour. We then position the patient for the procedure in the Cool Lipo room. The laser, the liposuction, the tightening and draining of the fluid then takes about two hours for each area. The length of the procedure depends on the areas being treated with the average being two hours for an individual area.
How long will it take for the treated area to heal?
The healing time frame depends on each patient's procedure and individual healing abilities. The small incision should heal within days and depending on your situation you may have minimal if any bruising.
How long before I notice results?
Patients should see results within a week post procedure and will also notice a continued improvement of skin texture and tightness in the treated area 2-6 months post-procedure.
Can the CoolLipo treatment be performed on my stomach, hips or other large body areas?
Yes absolutely. The Cool Lipo is ideal for all areas of unwanted fat. Any problem areas are reviewed with the doctor and she will help you set the goals for each area. This laser can melt fat in all races and all sizes even with lots of cellulite and dimpling. We are able to remove the connective tissue holding the fat in waves in any of the places you want it removed. Cool Lipo is an improvement over conventional liposuction because the laser melts the fat. With traditional liposuction the liposuction cannula traumatizes and breaks down the fat causing bruising and pain during recovery. With conventional liposuction the skin does not get tightened. Cool Lipo allows for a less traumatic removal through suctioning of the liquefied fat after the laser gently melts it, and also tightens the skin. It gives lifelong results.
